Evening Dipa Dhan

Srila Prabhupada’s day of departure from this world was celebrated in grand style here in Sri Dham Mayapur, beginning with Srila Prabhupada’s procession to the Samadhi Mandir. Everyone then assembled in Srila Prabhupada’s Pushpa Samadhi auditorium to watch an enthralling class by Srila Prabhupada.

The Mayapur community then gathered in the main area of the Samadhi to glorify His Divine Grace. Senior devotees, and several Gaudiya Matha devotees, all gave heartwarming and inspiring offerings to Srila Prabhupada.

Immediately following the offerings was abishek of Prabhupada’s utsava murti with traditional items such as yogurt, ghee, milk, honey, oil, chandan, and plenty of water. Srila Prabhupada, was then offered hundreds of preparations imbued with bhakti. Everyone then showered Srila Prabhupada with their love in the form of flowers. A Maha-feast was then served in our Gada Bhavan prasadam hall.

In the evening devotees gathered in the Samadhi to pray and honor the specific time (7:20pm) in which Srila Prabhupada left his body. We all sang Narottama Das Thakura’s famous bhajan entitled Saparshada-bhagavad-viraha-janita-vilapa (je anilo prema dana) or Lamentation Due to Separation from the Lord and His Associates. Ghee lamps were distributed for everyone to offer to Srila Prabhupada at that moment, and flowers were showered upon him.
